Your letter
- Enclose copies (never originals) of anything that proves your case, plus proof of your identity and address if the bureau asks.
- Send it so you have a record — many people use mail with tracking, or the bureau's official dispute page.
- Keep a copy of the letter and note the date you sent it. In the US, bureaus generally must investigate within about 30 days; elsewhere, timelines vary.
- Dispute with each bureau that shows the error — they hold separate files.
